Asset Evaluation / Preparation
Source videotapes are reviewed for scene changes and other logical break points. The overall quality of each segment is carefully analyzed to ensure that the final video will meet our quality standards. Each videotape segment is encoded and stored to the project hard disk as a high bandwidth MPEG-2 video file. The encoding process acquires both video and synchronized stereo audio at the same time.
Interface Design
With input from the client, the menu interface is developed for the DVD project. Buttons are designed linking to various segments of the program. Only through efficiently deesigned, attractive menus can DVD achieve it's full navagational potential.
Video / Audio Assembly
Selections will be made for sound effects and music as needed. Voiceover narration(s) in one or more languages will be recorded. Button sounds, selection sounds, and music beds are chosen. Where necessary, original music will be scored for the project.
DVD Audio can be created in any of several different formats including Dolby® Digital (5.1), DTS Surround or uncompressed PCM.
Production
All the components of a DVD program are integrated and connected to the links defined in the menu. Subtitles and alternate language tracks are added as well as copy protection and region coding.
Testing
Once the authoring process is finished, a sample version of the program is emulated on the development system. The program is checked to ensure that all links point to the proper place. Content options such as alternate audio tracks and titles are verified. The program is also tested to ensure that all programming adheres to the specefications of the DVD format. When completed, the DVD project is compiled and recorded onto a DVD disc. The program is tested as thoroughly as it was during the emulation phase. A check disc is then sent to the client for approval.
Pre-Mastering
When the project is completed and approved, the program is recorded onto DLT tape for replication.
